Working for VAS Masonry

We enjoy what we do. We put our heart and soul into our work, and it reflects in our final product. Our team members enjoy the time they spend at work, and enjoy the people they work with. We are a culture focused company, and we are extremely selective about who we add to our team permanently. We expect people to treat others well, and love to see people laughing and joking throughout the day. The most productive environment is a positive one, and we expect our people to take an active role in developing and maintaining it. We look for above average people and we pay accordingly. We are also always looking for different ways to reward our team members for the work that they do.

Bricklayers

We expect our bricklayers to turn out the highest quality work in BC, and we're not just saying that. We hire and retain those who have refined their craft, and are proud of the work they do. They are faster than the average mason, and still keep the work to a higher standard. They treat the laborers with respect at all times. There is a variety of options for bricklayers to work with VAS:

* Hourly Mason - These are the full time people who help make up the core of our business. Hours are typically 7:30-4:00, Monday - Friday

*Hourly Foreman - Same as an hourly Mason, but increased knowledge, responsibility and pay. Our Foremen are expected to run jobs effectively and manage a crew of workers

*Hourly Subcontractor - These masons own their own masonry business, and work at a set hourly rate whenever they are slow or need work. Typically we utilize Hourly Subcontractors on larger jobs we are already working on, or smaller jobs that don't require a lot of equipment that they can complete on their own. Hourly Subcontractors don't need to wait to be paid as they send invoices and receive payment bimonthly.

*Piece Work Subcontractor - This is best suited for a masonry business that has multiple employees of it's own. They work at a set per unit price, and are responsible to run a job from start to finish. VAS Masonry provides all major equipment, like scaffolding and mixers, while the Subcontractor is expected to utilize their own smaller equipment and tools. VAS Masonry pays piece work Subcontractors at the end of every month. VAS Masonry absolutely retains oversight of a project to ensure quality standards are being met.

Apprenticeships

VAS Masonry is always looking for people who are interested in apprenticing in the trade. We offer great wages, and more importantly a good opportunity to learn. We ensure the highest quality onsite training. You will be learning to be the best, from the best. We give new apprentices trowel time faster than just about any other masonry business out there. Other perks including help with the cost of apprenticeship schooling are also on the table.

Laborers

A laboring position with VAS Masonry is a great opportunity for those who are not interested in becoming a bricklayer. We pay very competitively based on work experience and capability.  Masonry is a production-oriented trade, the number of bricks, blocks, or square feet of stone installed can be easily measured each day. This means that every minute a mason spends doing any task other than installing product is missed production. Laborers can greatly improve production by completing most or all tasks that a trained mason is not needed to complete. Laborers are essential to our team, and work alongside masons. Laborers also have key areas of responsibility, that they will be expected to do independently of instruction after initial training. Laborers will need to focus on completing priority tasks, and then work on secondary tasks when time becomes available. Trained laborers can and should be able to complete all priority and secondary tasks consistently. Laborers are expected to be punctual, reliable, and be able to transport themselves to and from various job site locations.

If you are interested in any of the opportunities above, get in touch with us through our phone number, or send an email directly to timveldman@vasmasonry.ca
